Finding the right instrument

Purchasing

Choosing an instrument is personal. Whether it’s a first full-size violin or a fine antique, we give you time, expertise and one-to-one support.

Selecting from our workshop

Every instrument and bow in our stock is individually set up, adjusted or restored by our luthiers for playability, condition and tone. Try, compare and talk through a curated selection in a relaxed setting — we’ll explain tonal character, craftsmanship, provenance and suitability.

Sourcing beyond our stock

If the right instrument or bow isn’t here, we’ll find it through our network of makers, dealers and private clients, and keep you informed of new arrivals and promising matches.

Approval service

Take an instrument or bow home to try in your own time, in your own acoustic, before you decide. There’s no pressure.

Guidance you can trust

From first enquiry to final workshop adjustments, expect honest evaluations, thoughtful recommendations and dedicated care.

How it works

  1. Enquire — tell us what you play, what you’re looking for and your budget.
  2. Try — visit the workshop and play a shortlist we’ve prepared.
  3. Source — if needed, we look further afield for you.
  4. Take it home — borrow your favourite on approval.
  5. Final adjustments — we set it up exactly for you.

We’re hiring: Workshop Technician — join our restoration team in Newbury.
